@dave

To solve range anxiety & reduce the price, a possible solution would be to have a basic commuter sized battery in the ev at the time of purchase, then, when a larger one is required for special occasions, just return to the dealer & rent a slide-in battery, to go alongside the one already in your ev.

With Canadian new car sales of 1.9 million last year (re my Mar 10 post), the Arrow has a seriously good chance of capturing enough market share to be viable.

Omg. This story about the British 28yr old comic book artist and backpacker, staying at workaways and living her best life only to be detained at ICE jail when she tried to go to Canada. Guys SHE DREW PICTURES OF HER CELLMATES. 😢 this is a movie script.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/a

and the unexpected, complicit, villain?

The Canada Border Services Agents!! 😡 😤

Why the hell are we turning these obvious tourists back into the hands of ICE!?

As a Canadian I am embarrassed and infuriated. A directive must be put out to Canadian border guards to show leniency!!

The story about the Canadian woman who ended up in an ICE prison is detailed here. Sounds like having a US Visa is a liability now tourist, or work… and if you have any kind of trouble with it or do anything that might be perceived as troublesome, expect trouble at the border.

The best advice for people in this article: if you need to renew your visa, do it at an airport on Canadian soil so you can’t be sent to a US prison.

“She was told they'd have to send her back to Canada. But as Mooney sat searching for flights home on her phone she says that a man appeared and told her to come with him.
She knew something was way off when they pulled the shoelaces from her sneakers.
"Later I found out that's so you don't hang yourself in jail," said Mooney.”

CBCLocked in a so-called 'ice box' this Canadian detained in the U.S. decided to fight for others stuck in limbo | CBC NewsA B.C. woman detained for 11 days by U.S. immigration is speaking out after her tale went viral on social media. Jasmine Mooney was detained and held in immigration detention centres after attempting to apply for a visa and enter the U.S. from Mexico. Her lawyer says she's an example of shifts in how the U.S. is handling travellers

I know people who grew up on the US Border in Vancouver in the 60s and 70s. The border was a ditch they could walk or ride across as kids and go to the corner store. Those days ended years ago, but they are almost unthinkable now.

The warnings from Canada on travel to the US are frankly deeply shocking.

“The federal government updated its travel advisory on Friday, warning Canadians of possible detention should one be denied entry to the United States.
“Comply and be forthcoming in all interactions with border authorities,” reads the advisory. “If you are denied entry, you could be detained while awaiting deportation.”
The government also warned that travellers should expect to be heavily questioned and may have their electronic devices searched.

“Individual border agents often have significant discretion in making those determinations,” the advisory reads. “U.S. authorities strictly enforce entry requirements. Expect scrutiny at ports of entry, including of electronic devices.””

CTVNews · Canadians should ‘expect scrutiny’ at U.S. border crossings, feds warnThe Canadian government is warning those headed to the United States to expect to be scrutinized by border authorities, telling travellers to be forthcoming during any interaction with customs agents.

If you must go to the states, do so through a pre-clearance airport.
This means your last airport before departing for the US pre-clears your visa into the US.

Examples: YEG > YYZ > AUS: I did pre-clearance in Toronto
YEG > YYC > DFW > BRO: I did pre-clearance in Calgary

US Border Protection cannot detain or jail individuals seeking entrance into the US through pre-clearance points. If they cause you issues, you can simply walk away back into the airport, no questions asked.

The CBC's Evan Dyer talks about what it's like trying to cover Poillievre's campaign as the CPC bus tours the country and the party tightly controls questions from reporters.

"Today, in Trois-Rivières, we asked to be allotted a question. Party staffers said yes, so long as it was asked by my colleague Tom Parry. We responded that I would prefer to ask it. At that point the party took away our question and gave it to another outlet.

The difficulty of trying to keep up with a campaign that has its own chartered aircraft is a logistical problem that can be mitigated to some extent. But the extreme message control makes it all but impossible to bring the same level of accountability to the Poilievre campaign that other campaigns are subject to. It also protects the campaign from having to answer tough questions and is a marked departure from previous Conservative campaigns I have covered.”

Every once in awhile, I wonder if Nathan Cullen had won the leadership of the NDP in 2015 in place of Tom Mulcair, if we would have had our first Federal NDP government.

Nathan was one of the most progressive voices in Parliament.

Instead, we have Mulcair chopping at the knees of "his" former party.

I like Jagmeet Singh a lot, but it seems at the end of his rope and a big part is because of insiders like Mulcair never supporting him.

Tom Mulcair is the worst thing to ever happen to the NDP.
What a horrendous mistake he was.

Reminder: this is what Mulcair said after his party decided to have a leadership race to replace him.

"Mulcair stressed the importance that New Democrats remain "united" going forward, and said his replacement should have the "absolute and complete support of 100 per cent" of the party."

Hypocrite.
